More than the Silver in my Hair
65
Showing my true colors!
The silver is peeking through once again,
Attempting… to make its debut.
A sweet voice, that surely is not my own,
Calling me to leave it alone and let it be.
Who must I impress?
Why hide the years that I have earned with honor?
Comfortable in my own skin, surely the strands,
Deserve the same respect.
Silver that covers my head,
Beckons me with a gentle calling,
Telling me it is time,
Accepting this place in my life,
No longer afraid,
Resting in the natural process.
Who would not love me,
With my silver strands?
If he turns the other way,
Then he is not the man my heart desires.
I am more than the silver in my hair.

awesome i love it
Sunnie, Your tribute to those mischievous silver strands which play havoc with our self-image is endearing.
I love this charming little question: "Who would not love me, With my silver strands?"
Indeed, who would not love me with my upturned nose, my freckles, my dimples, and all the other features which trouble us until we accept them as part of us?
Charming and interesting. Great interview with Cindy Joseph, who shows us all what our golden years can look like.
Kind regards, Stessily
Sunnie,
I'm 49 and showind already the legacy of dad on the sides, still proud and youthful though. Nice you have sown us soem pictures! I see Epi, admiring your smile ang prasing the path you walk. Nice hub and inspirational piece for us that are entering the golden years slowly.....well, not me yet!! Lol!
LORD
Amen. All though, I don't have this problem...I'll go bald gracefully!
Sunnie Day, this is beautiful and encourages us to embrace our crown of wisdom. I like to call these tenacious strands, wisdom highlights. One day I shall hope to show mine with grace and beautify, but for now I shall keep Loreal in business :)
You look beautiful in your picture, MissOlive/Marisa
voted up!
My formerly black hair is now almost all silver, but at least I still have hair! Both of my sons are balding.
Silver highlights are so in. You look beautiful! On a more negative note, I have never been offered a discount anywhere becuase of my silver hair. I'm cantankerous and stubborn. Where's my discount?
hello to you. this is such a nice poem. voted it up as beautiful!

such beautiful lines...
i remember that time when i wrote a post with the title 'So What If I Am Forty?' it got varied reactions as i realized that there are some women who would not dare tell their age even if it shows. weird truly. when i am not really bothered about it at all. i guess i am one of those few who is comfortable with my age and womanhood.
I have earned every white hair in my head! I bleached for years until I decided to "just let it go". Are you surprised at how many comments you are getting with this Hub? Guess we gals are really interested in our hair! hope your day is great!
Hi, Sunny! I love your hair and you look so beautiful. I know that hair is like a crown. I love everything here, the picture, poem and the video as well. Good work and rated up!
Blessing,
Thanks for the nice post...Great
What a darling hub Sunnie and I see it's a very popular topic that many of us relate to. LOL I know I do.
Cool Hub. I always said grey was no problem.... bald.. well I did not want to go there - would have to grow my eyebrows long and comb them back.... LOVE Eva Cassidy... what a perfect video for this hub... Awesome
Sunnie Day, What a charming, endearing, lilting tribute to the rewarding, well-earned silver sheen which hair can take at any point in life! Your poetic offering brims with a gently insistent meter, humorous images, and philosophical insights. In particular, I like how you connect the title and the last gently ironic line.
Thank you for sharing, voted up + all,

Perfect. And thanks for the lovely shout-out for my blog Rock the Silver. I love what you said about empowering the woman on the outside as well as on the inside. That's really what I aim for, and it makes me feel great to know that I get it right once in awhile!
Sunnie you look fantastic!
I feel so young and that's what matters, but everytime I look in the mirror and see grey - it just doesn't seem 'right'!
A wonderful hub and voted up
Hi Sunnie,
You wear the silver well. I don't have a lot of grey so I have had others assume that I must colour my hair. I don't and have no desire to do so.
Voted up up and away!
Good on you Sunnie, I agree with you, who are we trying to impress with our chemically dyed locks. I have resisted the packet fix for some months now and my hair has never been healthier. Though it's not quite silver I have a lovely salt and pepper look happening ;)
Chalking is when you take pastels and color a strip of hair with it. You have to wet the strip to get it to transfer. It washes out, the next time you wash it. I have a blue strip in my hair right now. She wanted to see how much it transferred it. The grey lets it transfer easy.
Sunnie.. happy with who you are, good for you!!
loved the hub, and WOW did you get comment action..alot more than " Does your toenail polish match your personality?"just kidding..Isn't it funny how society denotes the stages of our life in reference to physical image? I was blonde and went white overnight in my forties and even my hairdresser used to ask me ,what do you use on your hair to get that colour? Everyone would comment on it( I am now 69) I wear it very short..and it became my signature look..One less thing to worry about..now about those wrinkles...
I get the senior discount without asking and I am only 53 this month. The perks abound. I just am not sure I want to look this old. Katy just tells me that she loves my hair and the silver is beautiful. She chalked my hair tonight.
This hub is a big hit. I am going to get to the root of this. And lastly it is very disconcerting to have a middle aged man open a door for me.
Dear Sunnie,
This is a wise, self-actualized piece, where your inner beauty pushes straight on through. I don't see where hair color matters in the least, I think you look amazing either way!
I, however, am sticking with Rosemay's team for the near and forseeable future (southern denial...)!
Voted UP & Beautiful. Hugs, mar.
Just today I saw a couple of streaks of silver hair...I was overjoyed, Sunnie.
Silver hair signifies wisdom, poise and elegance (according to me) My friend, you have all of the above.
wonderful hub...loved it!
I must say that i really tried to let my hair go gray, but each time i passed the mirror, i became confused, not knowing who that Lady was. Afer applying the blond color, I said, " Well hello Girl, good to see you back " Hee..I don't feel old and until i do, 'Nice and easy' is my pal...Great hub..enjoyed the fun...
A very nice poem the sentiments of which I have taken to heart. I got a little antsy when the first grays started showing up in my late 50s, but now I like the silver that tinges my temples and eyebrows. It's a badge of honor, signifying a life well lived.
Rated up and beautiful!
Well I am not growing old gracefully. I am still dying my hair, I don't 'feel' old enough to have grey hair yet, I don't think I look old enough either. Lol Plus that colour really doesn't suit me at all. Lol
No sorry but I am going to have to be dragged through old age. I am 62 this month but still have a long way to go.
Great hub and lovely poem Sunnie
This is full of wisdom. It speaks to the ages. It addresses our common adventure with how to deal with the knowledge obtained along the way.
I have a sister that is just slightly older, and a trip to the hair dresser makes her look ten years younger than myself - just say'n
It's a crown of glory.
I like to add low lights. I change from week to week. Fickle me.
I must have the same mindset! My silver, no matter how often I try to wash it away, keeps returning. Why? Who knows? It has a mind of its own.
We notice more the gold in your heart, Sunnie X

Beauty is in the hearts and eyes of the beholder, beauty comes from within and shines for all to enjoy are words we have heard for many years...just believe them and the gray hairs are rarely noticed. Enjoy life. Aging is a life of memories....hope they are all wonderful.
Sunnie, I know the feeling. I have great hair, that my dear daughter is envious of. Waist length, naturally curly and extremely soft. People have been complimenting it since I was a baby. Men and women. Probably my one vanity. And then, my husband tells me that he never really liked my hair. He thinks that straight, slick hair is the sexiest. I am heart-broken. He doesn't care what color it is as long as it isn't a strange color.
When my hair starts to get silver, I will not cover it up. I recently discovered that I like ageing, maybe because I am ageing so well....lol
SD - Age gracefully is my motto. You still look like a striking young woman Sunnie, so don't sweat it or fret it. It is going to happen. It is inevitable.
The Frog
Great poem! Personally, I have no intention of dying my hair as it slowly turns from brown to grey. But, it's a personal choice. Some women feel more confident with dyed hair. I say, go with what makes you feel comfortable!
“Resting in the natural process.” This is so lovely, Sunnie. Silver hair is beautiful; it is also earned as well as acquired. Silver wisdom is something that glows with women who accept this, gracefully, as do the men in our lives. I saw a film, recently, with a mature Helen Hayes. Not an ounce of hair dye or cosmetic surgery, and she was sooo beautiful – such grace! (I only hope that I will be half as wise and as fortunate.) Up and beyond. :-)
Hi Sunnie, I look at the gray hair and wrinkles as medals of honor of having succesfully survived a full life. As you can see on my profile picture, my hair is getting there quickly. It's all catching up with me and I am not going to hide it. I have all I need in my life and she seems happy with the way I am, that's all that matters. Great hub, as usual for you. Greg
Beautiful and dignified. I have to send this hub to my sister who is a world renowned soprano singer and who refuses to dye her hair though she is put under great pressure to do so for performances. It is going up on Facebook too. Thank you.
Hi Sunnie.
I had a few streaks of light colour to my dark hair when I was 13 years of age. It never really bothered me and now it's wavy, actually the right word is waving and by that I mean waving bye bye.
Sunnie we don't have grey hair, it is dark white and it adds a bit character to a person.
Take care.
LOL Ghaelach
Good morning Sunnie.. dear friend.. I love this hub.. your poem.. My hair has turned white. so white.. I try and color it but it will not stay on long like it used to. LOL..fighting old age.
God Bless you my dear.
debbie
This is just lovely and wel lwritten. It also is timely because I justhad my hair cut short and am letting all of the color grow out. Then I will be all natural with lots of beautiful silver. Your line "I am more than the silver in my hair." made me think "I am me because of the silver in my hair". Thanks Sunnie for this beautiful tribute to a woman who has received silver that shall never tarnish.
a great Hub Sunnie day.. good share but do what I do spray paint the bathroom mirror with black spray paint.. so the grays won't show up..huh? LOL thank you for sharing
Brilliant Sunnie and so true;however I am a little hypocrtical here beacause as soon as my roots grow and there's that line of nearly white hair the dye goes on pronto!!!
I say that I am not growing old gracefully because I was older in my mind in my twenties than I am now and I am not growing old again.
The only obstacle is that while my mind is so young my body says otherwise ha ha ha!!! Oh well never mind it should be fun the older I get !!!!!
Thank you so much for this thought provoking poem Sunnie!! An award of Up up and away for you with no doubt!!
Take care and have a great day.
Eddy.
Great hub Sunnie. The mirror each morning reveals so much and what a blessing to be growing older, especially with the girl of my dreams.
