He Said, She Said: How Do You Say Goodbye?
62
“Must you go?” She questions so sadly.
“I am afraid I must.” He explains, gently kissing her cheek.
“Time went by too fast,” she shares, as she softly pushes the hair from his eyes.
“Will I see you again?” She asks squeezing his hand so tightly.
“If God willing, I shall return,” he says as he pulls her closer.
“Thank you,” he whispers sweetly in her ear.
“Thank you for what my love?” She asks, laying her head upon his shoulder.
“For not crying,” he says stroking her hair.
“I am afraid it may be too late,” she whispers, as one tear falls.

Saying goodbye to a man in uniform would make me cry too!
Sunny Girl,
Absolutely awesome. :)

Sunnie, this poem brought me back to college, when my boyfriend (now husband) and I had to separate over the holiday breaks. This is a beautifully composed piece with a ton of emotion. Thank you for writing.
Sunnie, Saying goodbye is never really easy, not even when it seems that way. So I tell myself that a part of me travels with the words and stays with the person. That feels true for me.
Kind regards, Stessily
Hi Sunnie,
So touching and sweet. Goodbyes are never easy.
Voted up up and away!
Sunnie, for me saying goodbye is one of the most difficult things to do. Therefore I have so much empathy with my grandchildren when they cry when they have to say goodbye mommy/daddy/granny/or whoever. They love to say hallo, but they are hardly able to say goodbye.
I’ve learnt, and still learning, so much about myself and others through my grandchildren.
Yes, the one who is leaving does feel uncomfortable when we cry. It seems to be easier for the one who is leaving to say goodbye. Probably because s/he is emotionally more ready to say goodbye?
So very beautiful Sunnie, and finished off perfectly with the final twist.
Take care Sunnie and I wish you a wonderful day.
Eddy.

No i didn't read it until now, what a twist at the end. So much love..Loved it..
So few words, yet meaning so much. I loved it Sunnie. Thank you..
-the entire family would be standing at the gate, mom, dad ,wife, daughters,everybody- i would emerge carrying a small suitcase.i would hug my mom, shake hands with my dad, kiss my daughters and gently touch my wife's hand and she would murmur "come back soon".
i would cast a sad look at her and say "yesss" and would begin to walk away."take care of your stuff"mom would yell.i would look back and nod and start walking away again.
"want me to come to the railway station?" dad would shout and i would again turn back as i walked away and nod a no.
"He actually wants you to go- and you are being lazy" mom would rib dad and he would shout out once more, "wait i am coming with you."i would stop turn back and wave my hand for a no.
bu this time i would have come to the corner beyond which the family would not be visible and i would stop, put down the suitcase and wave a final goodbye and walking slowlly disappear into the sunset.some tears would be dabbed as the family would slowlly troop back inside learning to accept their loss.
me leaving for my posting abroad? for my military service?for a longish training session?
Naaah this was a scene played out regularly in my family hundreds of times (sometimes when mom would prevail even on railway platforms)
once a guy sitting next to me asked me after the train asked me,"leaving for a longish time?"I did not ave the heart to tell him i was going to be gone only for 2 days and this was how my family said their bye's every single time!!!1
Hello Sunnie, I have had many of those goodbyes as have so many others. Your background from a military family, you had your share and then some.
I hope he returns, too...sweet poem. The first picture brought back memories for me. Whoops, I just gave me age! Goodnight
And now another has fallen. This is so tender and sweet, not in a syrupy way. But in that way of beauty, babies, lovers, full hearts. I love this one.
I think its too late here too Sunnie. Sad goodbye are so heartbreaking
So sad, and so sweet.
beautifulllllllllllllll........
Lovely, poignant and touching; the magic of the verse injected by that one, single tear. You have a deft touch

You have set the mood perfectly in this story. No telling how many times this scene plays out.
It is hard to say goodbye. Thanks for sharing this poem. The video was a nice addition
Oh God! Sunnie,
